It is an understatement to say that these are challenging times. After a decade of advocacy, we entered 2025 with fully mature digital service delivery teams across the Federal government. At the same time, City and State digital service delivery teams were taking root.

Now, we are in the most unusual situation. While the Federal government is shedding is digital service teams, state and local governments are gearing. Now, state and local governments are being asked to leverage AI, data, and innovation to improve public services, increase transparency, and enhance civic engagement while federal support has disappeared. Additionally, non-profits, service providers, and other organizations are needing to meet the moment with limited resources. This panel brings together professionals working in the government and public interest technology sector—spanning public agencies, civic tech organizations, and private-sector partners—to discuss the opportunities, challenges, and impact of working in this field.

Panelists will share insights on career paths in govtech, the skills and experiences that help professionals succeed, and how technology is transforming public service delivery. The discussion will cover topics such as digital service design, open data, cybersecurity, ethical AI in government, and how civic technologists can drive meaningful change.
Whether you are an aspiring technologist, a policy expert, or someone looking to transition into the public sector, this session will provide valuable perspectives on how to navigate and contribute to the evolving world of government technology.

Key Topics:
  • Volunteering opportunities to improve government service delivery
  • Paths to a career in government technology
  • The role of data and digital tools in modern governance
  • The intersection of technology, policy, and public service
  • How to make an impact in the govtech space

Join us to learn from industry leaders about how you can shape the future of public technology and improve government for all.

Session will be livestream with real time ASL translation.

Format: Brief presentation, followed by discussion and questions and answers from the audience.
